SMU’s Master of Science in Data Science program is designed to train and develop professionals in the ever-evolving data science field. Delivered online, the program prepares professionals to analyze and manage large data sets and learn strategies to effectively visualize and communicate results to solve real-world problems. Designed for current and aspiring data science professionals, the program enables students to develop the technical, analytical and communications skills needed to meet the demands of today’s global business environment.
The 33.5-credit program can be completed in as little as 20 to 28 months months. Students will complete 30 credits of core coursework, a 2-credit capstone project and a 1.5-credit immersion experience at SMU’s campus.
In today’s data-driven world, employers are seeking candidates with the advanced skills to manage, analyze, mine and understand complex data to make strategic decisions. Through SMU’s M.S. in Data Science, professionals will develop a strong foundation in statistics, a critical component of data science. The M.S. in Data Science features an interdisciplinary curriculum that draws from SMU’s Dedman College of Humanities and Sciences, Lyle School of Engineering and Meadows School of the Arts. Students use the tools and methods used by real-world data science professionals to complete project-based assignments and collaborative work with peers from diverse backgrounds. Students are equipped with the critical skills to make well-informed decisions and immediately apply what they learn to their careers.
Designed with working professionals in mind, the M.S. in Data Science online degree program delivers a combination of live online classes, interactive coursework, collaborative group activities and in-person immersions. This blended learning experience enables students to earn a degree without relocating.
While the curriculum is delivered online, the program emphasizes opportunities for networking, so students form close relationships with current and aspiring data science professionals as well as faculty and experts in the field.
