Teaches: Doing Data Science

Dr. Faizan Javed is currently senior manager of data science (Search and NLP) at Home Depot, where he is leading the data science efforts for HomeDepot.com e-commerce product search. Previously, he was manager of data science at CareerBuilder, where he built and led several applied machine learning and information retrieval teams across a wide range of data science initiatives. Before that, he held several technology roles in many diverse industries such as finance, advertising and health care. He has also published and presented at conferences such as ACM KDD, AAAI and IEEE ICDM (among others). Dr. Javed earned a master’s in bioinformatics, a certificate in technology entrepreneurship and a PhD in computer science, all from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB).
