What Kind of Support Do We Offer?
DataScience@SMU offers a variety of personalized support services to ensure that students have the resources to start their careers, advance into a new role or enter a new industry after graduation. These include:
Career Coaching
Students can schedule individual appointments with the career services team to receive personalized coaching on how to:
- Search for and secure a job
- Develop their résumés
- Prepare for interviews
- Craft their professional brands
Professional One-on-Ones
Students also have the opportunity to discuss their career goals with a professional in their field. SMU assists with scheduling one-on-ones with professionals who are knowledgeable about hiring in data science. This includes advice on students’ career paths and a review on how students’ qualifications can position them for various careers in the field.
Career one-on-ones occur three times per year both online and in person at the immersion.
Employer Engagement and Networking
Through DataScience@SMU, students can network with and receive individualized support from recruiters and industry professionals from top companies nationwide. Past participants have included companies such as:

- Verizon
- AT&T
- Microsoft
- PwC
- Toyota
- Capital One
Students also receive advice and insights into hiring trends for data scientists, along with access to job postings, webinars, mock interviews, information sessions and news that aligns with their interests.
Virtual Career Hub
Upon admission to the program, students gain access to a self-paced career course that includes modular content and resources related to career development and professional growth. Through the Hub, students can access live and recorded webinar presentations and a portal where employers share open job opportunities, offer to conduct résumé reviews, hold virtual mock sessions and record informational interviews.
