Alumni

Calendar

  • Please bookmark the calendar of important dates pertaining to your degree in order to stay up-to-date. 

Career Support and Networking 

  • Hegi Family Career Development Center: The Hegi Family Career Development Center at SMU is dedicated to serving the needs of SMU students and assisting employers in reaching qualified SMU candidates.
  • Handshake: Handshake is SMU’s platform for searching for jobs, connecting with employers, registering for appointments and workshops with the Hegi Family Career Development Center
  • LinkedIn Learning: LinkedIn Learning is an online library of thousands of training videos to help users build skills. Some training sequences offer badges that can be displayed on your LinkedIn profile.
  • SMU Network: SMU Network is a professional networking platform but created specifically for the SMU community. This tool can help you connect with SMU Mustangs past and present. Once you create your account, you can search by degree, location, or industry. You can also find alumni who are interested in being mentors and see job postings meant for SMU alumni. 
  • edX: is available to aid students with additional technical skills.
  • Virtual Career Center in the Digital Campus: The VCC is a non-credit bearing course that you were enrolled in during your onboarding process.
    • The Career Engagement Network (CEN) is designed to assist you along that journey through resources, support, and inspiration. Whether you are looking to make a major career pivot, secure a promotion at your current company, or deepen your knowledge within a field, we have the resources to help you move forward. The Career Engagement Network provides access to the following materials (and many more):
      • Varied content relevant to your professional goals, aligned with industry standards 
      • Student success stories for career insight and inspiration
      • Articles on notable student, alumni, and industry expert experiences 
      • A job board to help you connect with trusted employers and expand your career search
      • Regular online workshops on relevant topics including interview prep, networking, salary negotiation, and more.

Commencement

  • The commencement website is updated with new ceremony information as it becomes available.
    • DataScience@SMU students attend the Degree Recognition Ceremony for the Master of Science in Data Science in the Spring. 
    • Fall graduates can attend the all-campus Commencement ceremony in December. 
    • Students can express interest in which ceremony they hope to attend when completing the application to graduate.
  • Additional information regarding guests, tickets, regalia, parking, and other ceremony nuances can be found on our academic ceremonies website.
  • Diploma services provide additional information regarding applying for graduation and requesting additional diploma information to include updating the name student’s wish to see on their official documentation.

Enrollment and degree verification requests go through our Registrar’s Office.

Financial assistance

  • General tuition and financial aid information can be found via this site.
  • Our Student Financial Services Office aids in payment related resolutions to include payment options and refunds.
    • Payment due dates can be found within our Student Financial Services Office.
    • The annual Rights and Responsibility Agreements can be found here.
    • Information regarding your 1098-T can be found here.
    • Graduate Tuition Costs (per Semester) for the Dedman College of Humanities & Science can be found via this site. Please review the information for the MSDS-Masters of Science in Data Science.
  • You can contact the Student Account/Bursar’s Office via (214) 768.5555 and their hours are: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM (MTThF), 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM (W).

Diversity at SMU

Leave of Absence 

Please refer to our LOA Checklist for a comprehensive review of the steps you’ll need to take before taking an LOA, during your LOA and as part of preparing for your return to the program. You’re highly encouraged to connect with your Student Success Advisor prior to completing LOA paperwork.

  • Distance Learning Library Services can be found with our Library Services Team. 

Military Assistance

  • Using your military benefits at SMU whether you are using Chapter 30, 31, 33, 35, or 1606, you can find additional information within our Enrollment Services Office.
  • Additional VA Educational Benefit information can be found here. This information included our certifying officials, Yellow Ribbon information, and location information.
